Meet Andy Putland: the newly-appointed Goldsmiths’ Craft and Design Council chairman

The Goldsmiths’ Craft & Design Council (GC&DC) has appointed a new Chairman for the next two years – renowned British silversmith Andrew (Andy) Putland.

A Council member for the past five years, Andy has been intrinsic to the future direction of the Council and its annual Awards, and is also a respected Awards judge. He is looking forward to immersing himself in the role as the Council works towards its 2018 Awards.

Andy takes over from retiring Chairman Jos Skeates, who will remain on the Council.
An established British silversmith in his own right, Andy is one half of Padgham & Putland, celebrated silversmiths that have worked with the likes of Bulgari and created pieces for Pope John Paul II and the Saudi Royal Family. He has previously scooped a number of Goldsmiths’ Craft & Design Council Awards for his work.

“It is an honour and privilege to become Chairman of the Council,” Andy says. “I look forward to progressing the hard work and achievements of Jos in developing the Awards for the future, as we continue to encourage, inspire and celebrate brilliance in design and craftsmanship in the UK jewellery, silversmithing and allied trades.”

Andy will be supported by a new vice-chair, Council member Peter Crump. His appointment coincides with the appointment of four new Trustees for the Council, namely Peter Crump, Anne-Marie Reeves, David McCaul and Kathryn Bishop.

Andy and fellow Council members will be present at International Jewellery London at Olympia, September 3rd-5th, where visitors can say hello and find out more about how to enter the 2018 Awards.
