The Goldsmiths’ Craft & Design Council has expanded the Enamellers and Enamel Painters section of the 2018 Awards, to invite entries in both traditional and experimental enamelling techniques.

Responding to feedback from the enamelling community, GCDC judges and the Council itself, the section has now been split into two paths to encourage and accommodate a wider cross-section of entrants.

The Enamelling Section will now cater to both established technical excellence using traditional enamelling techniques and processes and – for the first time – a category inviting enamellers who experiment, explore and seek visual qualities and striking aesthetics in their designs.

A. ENAMELLERS & ENAMEL PAINTERS - CRAFT
     J) Junior      S) Senior
Any enamelled or enamel painted subject using traditional techniques allied to the jewellers and silversmiths craft may be submitted.

B. ENAMELLERS 3D FINISHED PIECES - DESIGN

Any design-led enamelled jewellery, objects and silversmithing using traditional/or non-traditional enamelling techniques may be submitted.
Entries will be primarily judged on creative ideas and design merit, with due consideration given to the standard of craftsmanship. This is the same judging criteria as in the 3D design sections 8-14.

Speaking of the advancement to this section, Goldsmiths’ Craft & Design Council Chairman Andy Putland said: “The UK boasts a superior cohort of talented enamellers, many of whom have taken home GCDC Awards during the course of their careers. As we look to 2018 and beyond, we wish to celebrate this community further, expanding the Enamelling Section to welcome new and existing entrants in the sector. We’re encouraging experimental enamellers to share their creativity and designs with us. Young or old, in training or experienced, we look forward to seeing what the enamelling community has to offer.”
