The Goldsmiths' Craft and Design Council is proud to announce our first ever 2D Design Projects. This is an exciting new incentive from GC&DC to encourage creativity amongst our community during this time.

The Design Projects are open to anyone who wishes to enter.

All entries MUST be emailed to info@craftanddesigncouncil.org.uk by the 31st May 2020.

Please read more below about the two briefs and ensure you are familiar with the guidelines before emailing in your designs.

Love in the Lockdown - 2D Jewellery Design Project

This is an exciting opportunity for you to exercise and express your creativity and inventive ideas in a design challenge that we have put together for aspiring jewellers. This has been made possible with the close collaboration of GC&DC’s Special Patrons Brown and Newirth, who enthusiastically want to partner in this incentive.

You are invited to submit 2D ideas to the design brief below and will need to clearly communicate your proposal well, and a 1:1 scale drawing must be included.  This is not a Goldsmiths’ competition question, but rather seen as a great chance to engage in a design project now. It is also the intention to manufacture the winning design in liaison with Brown & Newirth. Equally, this opportunity is intended to help our creative community to participate, interact, share and enjoy.

We are inviting the UK jewellery community to design creative jewellery entitled ‘Love in the Lockdown’, suitable to be gifted to a couple or an individual whose celebrations have been impacted by the lockdown.

Reunion – 2D Silversmithing Design Project

This is an exciting opportunity to exercise your creativity in a short design challenge that we have put together for aspiring silversmiths. This has been in collaboration with a silversmith and GC&DC Sponsor, as well as Patrons Champagne Gosset, who are happy to partner with us for a prize and great incentive for this project.

You are invited to submit 2D ideas to this design brief. These can be in any form but they will need to clearly communicate your proposal well. This is not a competition but rather seen as a light-hearted challenge with a quick turnaround to help our creative community to participate, interact, share and enjoy.

We are all looking forward to the time when we can start properly socialising with family and friends again. With this appealing prospect in mind, you are invited to design any silver item, product or multiples, associated with the universally popular pastime of a coffee morning.

6) JUDGING:
Jewellery – 2D Design Project
Will be undertaken by Brown & Newirth’s Managing Director and Product Creation Director, as well as members of the GC&DC.  The winning designer will be announced shortly afterwards via our social media channels, along with a short list of main contenders. Designs will be judged on their creative approach, adherence to the brief, along with a cost sensitive emphasis because of the circumstances inflicted by the lockdown.

Silversmithing – 2D Design Project
Will be undertaken by members of the GC&DC, a Sponsor and Patrons Champagne Gosset. The winning designer will be announced shortly afterwards via our social media channels, along with a short list of main contenders. Designs will be judged on a creative approach to the brief but even better if functionality is also factored in and answered well.

7) PRIZES:
Silversmithing – 2D Design Project
The winning designer will be presented with a special gift from Champagne Gosset, a Magnum of Gosset Grande Reserve in a gift box.

Jewellery – 2D Design Project
The winning designer will have the prospect of liaising with Brown & Newirth for the manufacture of their design. This will be presented to the winner in due course, for them to decide who it is to be gifted to. In addition, they will be given a tools/materials voucher to the value of £500 to help with applying their trade.

8) WITHHOLDING PRIZE: Judges may choose not to give the prize away if they consider the quality of the entries to be of insufficient merit.

Please do not share your designs online or otherwise, until announcement of the final results in order to maintain anonymity

By entering a GC&DC creative challenge, you are agreeing for your design to be used for promotional purposes by the GC&DC and their collaborative partners.
