A Freeman of the Goldsmiths’ Company and the City of London, Justin is an award-winning designer and master craftsman, recognised for his quality jewellery and bespoke watches. Combining traditional and contemporary techniques with precious metals and gemstones, his work includes exclusive, limited, one-of-one commissions.
Inspired by his passion for watches, Justin is inviting designers to explore timepiece design in this year’s competition.
This exciting challenge brings a fresh perspective to the 2D Design briefs and an opportunity to showcase creativity and individual ideas for the luxury market.
The Brief
Bespoke Wristwatch
The global market for watches is significant, and the demand for luxury timepieces of distinctive identity remains in vogue and in high demand. Time is the most valuable commodity we have; a handmade timepiece embodies the passion and time needed to create it, and also signifies and endorses this precious commodity to us.
Design a bespoke timepiece wristwatch, tailored for the luxury market, based on the topic of ‘Going Out’ and interpret this in your own way, and what it means/represents to you.
To be made in precious metals using 18ct gold and/or platinum, with gemstones and other complementary materials, with particular attention given to the watch face.
Please note, close scrutiny to detail and accuracy is very important, and your design must include a 1:1 scale drawing within your proposal. Designs can be presented using CAD, drawn by hand or in combination.
The most important thing to remember is the impact of your design concept and how you have creatively responded to the brief.
